No male and female
Storz couplings are symmetrical: two identical couplings join with a turn, the lugs of one going behind the ring of the other.
Enter the distance in millimetres or a size. Below the examples, the size of an offered coupling can be checked: whether the two connect. The drawing and the RFQ line update with every change.
On the size alone: the seal of the coupling and the hose it is bound to are checked separately.
Fire hoses on board are often joined by Storz couplings: two lugs that turn into each other. The size of a coupling is read from the distance between its lugs. Measure it or enter the size, and the identifier names the coupling, says what it connects with, draws the face and writes the RFQ line.
The coupling size is only the connection. The hose inside diameter, or the thread or flange on the other side, is given separately.
Storz couplings are symmetrical: two identical couplings join with a turn, the lugs of one going behind the ring of the other.
The lug distance sets the size: D 31 mm, C 66 mm, B 89 mm, A 133 mm; between them, sizes 32, 65, 90 and 100.
All couplings of one size have the same lug distance, so they join each other whatever hose they are bound to.
| Size | Letter | Lug distance, mm |
|---|---|---|
| 25-D | D | 31 |
| 32 | — | 44 |
| 52-C | C | 66 |
| 65 | — | 81 |
| 75-B | B | 89 |
| 90 | — | 105 |
| 100 | — | 115 |
| 110-A | A | 133 |
The distance is measured inside, between the lugs, with a caliper. Size 38 is not given: the sources give 51 and 52 mm for it.
Lug distances: the size table in Tameson's Storz coupling guide and the Storz tables on Wikipedia; sizes D, C, B and A also the Landefeld catalogue. Compatibility of couplings of one size: Tameson and Landefeld.
With a caliper, inside, from one lug to the opposite one across the coupling face. A C coupling reads 66 mm, a B coupling 89 mm.
Yes. Storz couplings are symmetrical, and all couplings of one size have the same lug distance, so a C coupling meets any other C coupling, whatever hose each is bound to.
Check that it is a Storz coupling: two lugs that turn into each other, no male and female side. Size 38 is not given here because the sources differ on its lug distance; other fire hose couplings are built differently.
The Storz size or the lug distance, what is on the other side (the hose inside diameter, a thread or a flange), the material, the seal and the quantity.
Naming the size is a cross-check, not a selection. Attach photographs of the coupling and the hose, and Vessel Core checks them before an offer goes back.
