Woodward Inc. is a US manufacturer of governors, actuators and engine control systems, and its equipment has a long history in the engine room: mechanical-hydraulic UG governors on older diesel and steam-turbine drives, electronic actuators retrofitted onto that same hardware, and digital control systems on more recent propulsion and genset installations. UG-8, UG-10, UG-15 and UG-25 Universal Governors
Universal Governor units in isochronous or droop configuration, still catalogued individually as ship spares. They sit on older diesel drives and on steam-turbine drives, which is why the driven machine matters as much as the governor designation itself.
3161 Governor
The legacy 3161 governor, carried alongside the UG range in isochronous or droop configuration. Like the UG series it is still catalogued individually by marine parts brokers, so a nameplate photograph is often enough to begin identification.
EG-3P and EG-3PC proportional actuators
Proportional actuators driven from an electronic speed control. They are frequently the retrofit half of an installation whose governor body is decades older, so the actuator and the control it answers to are worth naming together.
EGB actuators and the UG-Actuator retrofit unit
EGB actuators, and the UG-Actuator retrofit unit with its own self-contained oil sump. Both appear as the driven element under a 2301A or 2301D control, and both are also requested as standalone spares.
PGA-EG and PGG-EG governor bodies
Hydro-mechanical governor bodies with electronic control and pneumatic backup tracking, rated for a range of marine engine sizes. The backup arrangement is part of the identity of the unit and should be stated on the enquiry.
2301A and 2301D Load Sharing and Speed Controls
Load Sharing and Speed Control systems, typically paired with an actuator such as an EGB or a UG-Actuator. The control and the actuator are separate items commercially, but they identify each other technically.
723 Plus Digital Control
Digital control for gas, diesel and dual-fuel reciprocating engines, used with its own compatible actuator. Control cards for these systems are requested separately from the control itself.
ProAct Digital and Digital Plus, and LECM modules
ProAct Digital and Digital Plus controllers for governing, sequencing and protection on large reciprocating engines in marine propulsion, and LECM engine control modules with validated gas, diesel and dual-fuel application software.
easYgen 2000, 3000 and 3200XT controllers
Paralleling and load-sharing controllers for genset switchboards. On these units the switchboard arrangement is part of the request, since the controller is identified by what it parallels as much as by its own type.

Part numbers are helpful but not always available on older mechanical-hydraulic governors. A nameplate photo, the driven engine or turbine data and a photo of the linkage or actuator can be enough to begin technical cross-checking before supply routes are reviewed. A governor is quoted against the engine it controls, not against a shelf code.
A Woodward item rarely stands on its own. The same actuator appears under different control systems, and the same control system drives more than one actuator, so the request has to describe an installed arrangement rather than a single code. What follows is how that fact - and the age spread from mechanical-hydraulic governors to digital control modules - changes the questions asked before any Woodward item is quoted.
A part number is welcome, not required
The request can include a complete part number, or it can start from the governor or actuator type designation, the serial number, the driven engine or turbine make and model, or photographs of the nameplate and mounting arrangement.

The best Woodward RFQs connect the part to the driven engine. The engine or turbine make and model is asked for alongside the governor reference, because the same governor family is fitted to machines of very different size and duty.
Isochronous or droop confirmed
Where it is relevant, the operating mode is confirmed with the type designation. UG-8, UG-10, UG-15, UG-25 and 3161 units are catalogued in isochronous or droop configuration, so the mode belongs on the enquiry line rather than in a later clarification.
Evidence structured before routing
