Wilo Pump
Spare Parts Supplier
Building-services pumps that Wilo offers for cargo and passenger ships — in-line, end-suction, split-case and vertical multistage units, plus pressure-boosting sets — identified from the full type string and both rating plates before a seal or impeller is quoted.
Wilo pump families named for ships
The families Wilo lists for cargo and passenger ships are building-services designs: its own product pages describe them for heating, chilled water, cooling circuits and water supply in buildings. Wilo's marine pages place them in HVAC, potable water supply, fire protection and ballast water management. On board they belong to air-conditioning plant, chilled and hot water circuits and fresh water pressure sets, so the manual is worth looking for in the accommodation and HVAC documentation as well as in the engine-room library.
Atmos GIGA-I
Glanded in-line centrifugal pump with flanged suction and discharge on one centre line, a lantern, a coupling and an IEC standard motor. Wilo builds it for heating water, chilled water and water-glycol mixtures. The designation gives the connection size, impeller size, motor power and number of poles, and a suffix marks the variant: -L1 for a bronze impeller, -L4 for a stainless steel impeller, -P6 for back pull-out with a cartridge mechanical seal.
Atmos GIGA-N
Long-coupled end-suction standard pump on a baseplate, which Wilo describes as its entry-level model among glanded pumps. The rotor unit pulls out to the back, and the spacer coupling lets the mechanical seal be changed without moving the motor. Impellers are made in grey cast iron, bronze or stainless steel, so the material belongs on the request.
SCP
Horizontal split-case pump, single- or two-stage, with a volute casing split along the shaft axis and a double-suction impeller (Wilo's type key also lists single-suction versions). The suction and discharge branches are cast with the bottom half, so the top half lifts off while the pipework stays in place. The shaft runs in a mechanical seal or in stuffing box packing.
Helix FIRST V · Helix V
Vertical high-pressure multistage pumps with in-line connections and stainless steel impellers, stage housings and guide vanes. Helix FIRST V has a grey cast iron pump housing; on Helix V the pump housing is stainless steel as well. Both take either a plain mechanical seal or a cartridge seal, and the type string says which one is fitted.
SiBoost Smart (FC) Helix V
A factory-built water pressure set: two to four Helix V pumps in parallel on a galvanised frame with vibration absorbers, a diaphragm pressure vessel, a pressure sensor and gauge, shut-off and non-return valves for each pump and the Smart Controller SC. The FC version adds a frequency converter for the base-load pump. Set parts and pump parts are separate lines.
Where Wilo hotel-service pumps wear first
Little in these pumps wears in the usual sense: the Helix manual calls the pump maintenance free with a regular check, and SCP bearings are sealed and pre-lubricated apart from the sizes the manual marks for regreasing. For those sizes, the bearing grease quantity calculator works out the grease to add from the outside diameter and the width of the bearing, and the number of strokes of the grease gun, where the manual gives no quantity of its own. What fails is usually the seal faces, after a dry start or on a fluid the seal was not chosen for, followed by the parts that hold clearances and carry the shaft.
Mechanical seal after dry running or a glycol change
Wilo's split-case manual says a mechanical seal must never run without fluid, even for a short time, and the Helix manual says never to run the pump dry. The fluid matters too: for water-glycol mixtures Wilo recommends an S1 variant with a matching mechanical seal on the GIGA-I, and offers special seal faces on request for Helix V pumps in glycol cooling circuits. If the glycol content of a chilled-water circuit has been changed since build, say so on the enquiry.
Neck ring clearance
On the SCP a neck ring in the casing runs against the impeller neck with a fine clearance that Wilo's manual asks to be restored periodically. When wear passes the limit the manual sets, the clearance is restored with small-in-bore neck rings bored out to suit the impeller, so the enquiry needs the measured impeller neck diameter. Where damage is extensive the impeller may need replacing as well.
Packing, shaft sleeves and stuffing box bushes
Gland packing on an SCP is meant to leak slightly. Wilo notes that an over-tightened gland damages the packing at once, and that leakage which can no longer be trimmed with the gland plate means the packing is worn out. The renewable shaft sleeves are checked for grooving at the same opening, so sleeves, sleeve nuts and stuffing box bushes join the packing on one list.
Bearing and seal overload from inlet pressure
Wilo states that on a Helix pump the inlet pressure plus the pressure at zero flow must stay below the maximum operating pressure on the rating plate, or the ball bearing and the mechanical seal may be damaged. Where a pressure set draws from a pressurised main rather than a tank, this is the first check when seals keep failing.
Bearings and coupling elements
The SCP rotor runs on deep groove ball bearings at both shaft ends, and the manual counts them, together with the coupling bushes or membrane set, among the parts long service affects most. On a Helix pump the lantern holds an additional ball bearing that takes the hydraulic axial load, and a pump fitted with a grease feeder follows the lubrication interval printed on its sticker.
Wilo pump components that appear on RFQ lines
Wilo manuals number the parts on their sectional and exploded drawings, and an RFQ line reads most clearly when it gives that item number next to the part name and the type string.

Plate data that makes a Wilo enquiry quotable
Wilo's manuals ask for the rating plate data with every spare parts order: the Helix manual for the pump plate, the split-case manual for the data plate of the pump and the motor, plus the name plate number and pump type whenever original design clearances are requested. The list below follows that. How a plate photograph becomes a priced list is set out on the how we work page.
- Full type string exactly as on the pump rating plate, including every letter and suffix after the series name
- Serial (name plate) number from the pump rating plate — the split-case manual asks for it together with the pump type
- Every line of the motor rating plate, and the motor make if it is not Wilo
- Seal letters in a Helix string: E or V for the elastomer, K for a cartridge seal, X for X-Care
- Material code digit in a Helix string, which separates cast iron and stainless steel pump housings
- Atmos GIGA suffixes: -L1 bronze impeller, -L4 stainless steel impeller, -P6 back pull-out with cartridge seal, S1 for water-glycol duty
- Shaft sealing seen on the pump: plain mechanical seal, cartridge seal or gland packing
- For a SiBoost set: the set designation, whether it is the FC version, and the number of pumps on the frame
- Pumped fluid and service: chilled water, heating water, water-glycol, potable water or fire water
- Item numbers from the sectional or exploded drawing in the Wilo manual for that pump
Tools for this equipment: the mechanical seal material code for the seal faces, the flange identifier for the suction and discharge flanges, and the affinity laws calculator when a centrifugal pump runs on another supply frequency.
What a Wilo enquiry is read against
The Wilo families listed for ships are building-services designs, so the parts question almost always turns on the exact execution: suffix, seal, material and motor. These points are settled before anything is quoted.
Variant read from the suffix
On an Atmos GIGA-I the suffix after the size code changes the parts behind the same base model: a bronze or stainless steel impeller, a back pull-out unit with a cartridge seal, or a seal chosen for water-glycol. Requests are matched to the suffix on the plate, not to the base model alone.
Seal maker's marking
The Wilo Mather and Platt manual for SCP pumps notes that they are supplied with mechanical seals from leading seal manufacturers in India, so the seal fitted may carry its own maker's marking. A photograph of that marking goes with the pump plate. Where the buyer's approval list allows it, an equivalent seal of the same type, face pairing and elastomer can be examined, and the quote names the route each line follows.
Pump and set kept apart
On a SiBoost set the controller, sensors, vessel and valves are separate lines from the Helix pumps on the frame. A set that holds pressure badly may need a sensor or a vessel rather than pump parts, so the symptom is asked about before a pump part is quoted.
Two plates, two makers
Wilo's split-case manual asks for the data plate of the pump and of the motor with spare parts demands, and a Helix supplied as a bare-shaft pump carries a motor shaft and lantern size code in place of motor data. Where the motor comes from another maker, its own plate decides the motor-side parts, so both plates are read before a coupling or bearing is quoted.
Replaced pumps
Two pumps in the same plant room can carry different type strings if one has been replaced since build. The plate on the pump being repaired is the reference, not the plant-room drawing and not the sister pump.
Wilo pump enquiries — recurring questions
Which Wilo pumps are found on ships?
Wilo's own page for cargo and passenger ships lists the SCP split-case pump, the Atmos GIGA-I in-line pump, the Atmos GIGA-N end-suction pump, the Helix FIRST V vertical multistage pump and the SiBoost Smart (FC) Helix V pressure-boosting set, for HVAC, potable water, fire protection and ballast water management. They are building-services designs, and the duties Wilo names are mostly hotel and safety services rather than main engine systems.
What should be sent for a Wilo mechanical seal?
The full type string and serial number from the pump rating plate, every line of the motor plate, the pumped fluid with its glycol content if any, and a photograph showing whether a cartridge seal or a plain mechanical seal is fitted. On a Helix pump the letters in the type string already state the elastomer and whether a cartridge seal is fitted; on an Atmos GIGA-I the suffix shows the P6 cartridge execution.
Can a single neck ring be ordered for a Wilo SCP split-case pump?
It can, but the request should carry the clearance between ring and impeller neck measured at the last opening. Wilo's manual lists the impeller, mechanical seal, neck rings, sleeves, stuffing box bush, bearings and coupling bushes as the parts most affected by long service, and suggests renewing only the heavily worn components where wear is local and all wearing components where it is uniform.
Are SiBoost pressure set parts quoted separately from the Helix pumps?
Yes. The set designation identifies the frame, the Smart Controller SC, the diaphragm vessel, the sensors and the valves, while each Helix V pump on the frame has its own rating plate and type string. Send both, and say which pump on the frame the parts are for.
Is a Wilo pump on a ship different from the same pump ashore?
Wilo's marine pages describe its pumps for ships in general terms and do not name a separate marine series, so the type string on the plate is the reference for parts. Class or owner requirements for a given installation are a separate question, best confirmed from the ship's own documents.
Is Vessel Core connected to Wilo?
No, and there is no agreement of any kind. Vessel Core holds no distribution, representation or partnership agreement with Wilo, and quoting a component against one of its designations implies no approval by the maker and no claim of interchangeability.
Send both rating plates and the fluid.
List the full type string, the serial number, the motor plate data, the pumped fluid, the parts needed and the port. Seals, impellers and pressure-set items are quoted as separate lines, so the ship can decide what to fit now and what to keep as a spare.
