Heinen & Hopman HVAC
Spare Parts Supplier

Air handling units, cabin units, ventilation fans and refrigeration plant from the Dutch HVAC and refrigeration maker, read from the unit plate first and then from the plates of the compressor, motor and controller built into them.

One plant, several plates: A Heinen & Hopman unit carries its own plate with the unit type and serial, but the compressor, the fan motor and the controller inside it can be other makers' products with plates of their own. Send the unit plate and each component plate as they read; the component plate decides which parts list a line is read against.

Heinen & Hopman plant behind HVAC enquiries

Heinen & Hopman is a Dutch family company based in Spakenburg that designs and builds heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems for ships, from ferries to naval vessels. Much of it is engineered for the ship it sits on, so the unit plate and the HVAC drawings delivered with the ship say more than a product name. The groups below are the ones that reach a spare-parts request. The HVAC and refrigeration guide covers the wider equipment families and refrigerants.

Accommodation air · AHU

Air handling units

The central units that treat and move air for the accommodation: fan and motor, cooling and heating coils, filters and dampers in one casing. Fan bearings, belts, filters and coil repairs are the recurring lines. The unit plate fixes the drawing they are read against, and where a frequency drive runs the fan, its own plate goes in the request too.

Accommodation · cabins

Cabin units

Cabin and room units take conditioned air from the central plant and finish it locally; on some passenger ships they work with variable air volume. Dampers, reheaters where fitted, small fans and the room controller are the usual items, and the controller may carry another maker's label.

Supply and exhaust air

Ventilation fans

The fans that move supply and exhaust air through the ship, built into Heinen & Hopman systems. Impeller, bearings, motor and, on belt-driven fans, belts and pulleys are the parts lines. The fan plate and the motor nameplate are read separately, because the motor is often a standard frame from a motor maker.

Maker identity

LeBlanc · Teknotherm on the plate

Two companies joined the Heinen & Hopman group and kept their own names: LeBlanc & Associates of Houma, on the US Gulf coast, in 2014, and the refrigeration maker Teknotherm Marine, in which Heinen & Hopman took a majority stake in 2015. A plate reading either name is read as it stands, with its own serial.

Wear pattern

What brings an HVAC unit onto a requisition

HVAC faults are usually reported as a symptom in a cabin or a space long before anyone opens the unit, so the request is easier to scope when the symptom and the readings taken on board travel with it. When a space stays warm with the plant running, the air flow and duct calculator sets the supply air flow against the sensible load and gives the velocity in the duct, and where the fans serve the engine room, the engine room ventilation calculator works out the air the room needs by the ISO 8861 method.

Air handling

Noisy fan bearings and worn belts

On a belt-driven fan the belts and pulleys wear first, and a bearing that starts to run rough is usually heard on a round. Where a sound level meter is used on that round, the sound level calculator takes the background noise out of a reading and adds the levels of several fans in dB(A). Copy the belt marking or measure its section; the V-belt identifier reads the section from the marking.

Coils

Iced or fouled cooling coil

Falling air flow, ice on the cooling coil or water carried past the drip tray point to clogged filters, a fouled coil or a fault on the refrigerant side. Send the filter sizes from the frame and photographs of the coil face; a coil repair or replacement is read against the unit drawing.

Refrigeration

Trips on high pressure

A chiller, condensing unit or refrigeration plant that trips on high pressure often points to the condenser side: fouled tubes, low cooling-water flow or air in the circuit. The heat exchanger duty calculator turns the condenser readings into a duty that can be set against the design figure.

Motors

Fan motor tripping on overload

A fan motor that trips is checked against its nameplate current before it is condemned. The motor current calculator gives the full-load current from the plate data, so the reading taken on board has something to be compared with.

Component coverage

Heinen & Hopman items that appear on RFQ lines

Grouped by where the part sits, because a unit item, a fan item and a refrigerant-circuit item are each read against a different plate.

  • Air handling unit fans, impellers and fan bearings
  • Fan motors, read from their own nameplates
  • V-belts and pulleys for belt-driven fans
  • Air filters and filter frames, by size and grade
  • Cooling and heating coils, for repair or renewal against the drawing
  • Dampers, damper actuators and fire damper parts
  • Cabin unit items: reheaters, room controllers and sensors
  • Steam humidifier parts
  • Refrigerant circuit items: expansion valves, filter driers, sight glasses, pressure switches
  • Condenser gaskets and tube cleaning items
  • Frequency drive and starter items in the HVAC switchboard
Evidence for the enquiry

Reading a Heinen & Hopman unit and the plates inside it

An HVAC request is quoted from the unit and from the component the part belongs to. These items make it quotable without anyone guessing which parts list applies:

  • Unit type and serial exactly as they read on the Heinen & Hopman plate
  • Which system the part belongs to: air handling unit, cabin unit, ventilation fan, chiller or refrigeration plant, and its tag on the ship's HVAC drawing
  • Refrigerant as marked on the unit; the refrigerant number reader reads the R number
  • Compressor plate: maker, type and serial, whichever name it carries
  • Fan plate and motor nameplate, read separately, with the belt marking where the fan is belt-driven
  • Controller type and maker, from the label on the controller or the panel drawing
  • Item numbers from the unit's parts list or the HVAC drawing
  • Photographs of the plates and of the part to be renewed
Supply route

How a Heinen & Hopman request is worked

Each line is reviewed as a genuine part or a checked alternative, and the route is confirmed before the quote. For an HVAC plant that review starts from the unit plate and then moves to the plate of the component the part belongs to.

The component plate leads

A compressor, motor or controller inside a Heinen & Hopman unit is read from its own plate. Where the compressor plate reads Bitzer, Bock, Carrier or Carlyle, or Sabroe, its parts are read on the Bitzer, Bock, Carrier or Sabroe page, with the unit plate kept on the same request.

Standard items on a checked path

Belts, filters, bearings and many motors are catalogue items behind a unit part number. Where the owner accepts it, these go on a checked alternative path once the size, grade or frame is confirmed from the parts list, the removed part or the plate.

Unit-built items against the drawing

Coils, casings, dampers and cabin unit items are made to the unit, so they are quoted against the unit type, serial and drawing number. No substitute coil is proposed from a photograph or a measurement alone.

Refrigerant items with the refrigerant

Expansion valves, driers, switches and seals follow the refrigerant in the circuit, so the refrigerant marked on the unit belongs on every refrigeration line. Danfoss valves and switches are read against their type codes on the Danfoss page.

Heinen & Hopman HVAC parts — questions from ship staff

Can a Heinen & Hopman parts request be sent here rather than to the maker?

Yes. A request sent here is read from the same unit plate, component plates and parts-list numbers as any other. Each line is reviewed as a genuine part or a checked alternative before the quote, and the reply says which route each line takes.

The compressor plate reads Bitzer, not Heinen & Hopman. Which plate do I send?

Both. The unit plate tells which plant the compressor sits in, and the compressor plate tells which parts list applies. Compressor parts are read on the page of the name stamped on the compressor, for example the Bitzer page, while coils, fans and controls stay on this request.

The plate reads LeBlanc or Teknotherm. Is that Heinen & Hopman?

Both names belong to companies that joined the Heinen & Hopman group and kept their own names: LeBlanc & Associates in 2014 and Teknotherm Marine, in which Heinen & Hopman took a majority stake in 2015. Send the plate exactly as it reads, with its serial; the request is read against that name and is not rewritten.

Can a fan motor be quoted from the fan plate?

Usually not. The fan plate names the fan and the motor nameplate names the motor: frame, mounting, voltage, frequency and rated current. Send both; a standard motor can go on a checked alternative path once its plate data are confirmed.

Is Vessel Core connected to Heinen & Hopman?

No, and there is no agreement of any kind. Vessel Core holds no distribution, representation or partnership agreement with Heinen & Hopman, and quoting a component against one of its designations implies no approval by the maker and no claim of interchangeability.

Heinen & Hopman, LeBlanc and Teknotherm are named here because HVAC and refrigeration parts are ordered against the maker name, unit type and serial on the plate. Vessel Core holds no distribution, representation or partnership agreement with this or any other manufacturer named on this page, and does not present itself as holding one. Heinen & Hopman, LeBlanc, Teknotherm, Danfoss, Bitzer, Bock, Carrier, Carlyle and Sabroe are the names and trademarks of their owners. The designations on this page appear so that a buyer can match equipment already installed; quoting a component against any of them implies no approval by the maker, and no compatibility or commercial relationship of any kind.

HVAC fault on board?

Start with the unit plate.

Send the unit type and serial from the Heinen & Hopman plate, the refrigerant, the plates of the compressor, fan motor and controller involved, and the item numbers from the parts list. Each line is tied to the component it belongs to before a part reference is fixed against it.
