HD Hyundai Electric Generator
and Switchboard Parts
HD Hyundai Electric of Seongnam, Korea, builds synchronous generators and switchboards for ships; until 2017 the same business was a division of Hyundai Heavy Industries. A request is read from the generator plate, the switchboard nameplate and the relay labels, and each line is offered as a genuine part or a checked alternative, confirmed before the quote.
HD Hyundai Electric machines and relays behind an enquiry
HD Hyundai Electric lists low- and high-voltage synchronous generators used as the main source of power on ships, alongside main and emergency switchboards. The cards below follow what an electrician finds on board: the generator plate, the relays in the switchboard, the maker name on older drawings, and the board itself.
HFJ7
Hyundai's alternator literature offers an HFJ7 series for marine use, and genset listings show HFJ type lines on Hyundai alternators coupled to marine medium-speed engines, for example HFJ7710-10P behind a MAN 6L27/38. The figures and letters after HFJ7 belong to the type: copy them in full, with the serial number, because rotor, bearing and terminal box items are listed against that exact machine.
HIMAP-FI · HIMAP-T · HIMAP-M
HIMAP is the Hyundai digital protection relay family used in switchboards for generator, transformer and motor feeders. A relay setting report for a ship's main switchboard lists HIMAP-FI, HIMAP-T and HIMAP-M units, and surplus and marine automation traders offer the same types as spares. The suffix after HIMAP names the function, so the label on the front of the unit decides the line.
Hyundai Heavy Industries
The electrical business started in 1977 as a division of Hyundai Heavy Industries and became a separate company through a spin-off in 2017. Manuals, drawings and relay documents from before that date can carry the Hyundai Heavy Industries name for equipment that belongs on this page.
Main and emergency switchboards
HD Hyundai Electric is also counted among the ship switchboard makers of Asia, and its marine pages show main and emergency boards. Panel items are ordered from the switchboard nameplate, the drawing number and the item list in the switchboard manual, never from a photograph of a door alone.
Where a Hyundai generator or board request usually starts
In most cases the trigger is an alarm on the main switchboard: a generator fails to excite, a breaker opens on a protection trip, or a relay reports an internal fault. Note the alarm text and the function code on the relay before anyone presses reset. The ANSI device number reader explains what codes such as 27, 50/51 or 87G stand for on a drawing.
After a lay-up in damp air, a generator has its insulation measured with a megger before it is started; the insulation resistance calculator turns the readings into PI and DAR. For a bearing that runs hot or noisy, quote the code etched on its ring or its item in the generator parts list, and add the HFJ type line and serial. If that bearing has a grease nipple and is relubricated in service, the bearing grease quantity calculator gives the quantity to add from its outside diameter D and width B, with the speed factor n x dm when the bore and the speed are known.
HD Hyundai Electric parts we can quote
Each item below is tied to something on board: the generator plate, a relay label, the switchboard drawing, the marking on the old part or its number in a parts list.
- HIMAP protection relays, by the full type on the front label
- Generator bearings, by the code on the bearing ring or the parts list item
- Rotating diodes and exciter items where fitted, as marked on the part itself
- Voltage regulator and excitation items named in the generator documents
- Space heaters and terminal box items of the generator
- Breaker accessories, auxiliary contacts and panel meters, from the switchboard item list
- Starter contactors and relays, from the switchboard drawing
What to photograph on a Hyundai generator or switchboard
One ship can carry Hyundai engines, Hyundai generators and a Hyundai switchboard, each with its own documents. These photos keep the request on the right one.
- The full generator plate in a single frame, sharp enough to read the HFJ type line and the serial
- The front label of each HIMAP relay concerned, plus a wider photo of the panel section
- The switchboard nameplate and the drawing number from the switchboard manual
- The alarm text or relay fault display as it appeared, photographed before a reset
- Poles, frequency and rated speed exactly as stamped; the motor speed calculator is a cross-check that the three fit together
- The engine's own plate (make and type), when coupling items are part of the job
- Item numbers from the generator or switchboard parts list, where the manual is on board
How an HD Hyundai Electric request is checked
Every line is quoted either as a genuine part or as a checked alternative, and which one it is appears on the offer itself. Relays and panel items are matched to the label and the drawing.
Generator plate first
An HFJ7 type line with its serial number is the key to the generator parts list. A request that names only the engine, or only the ship's builder, comes back with a question about the generator plate.
A relay is read by its function
HIMAP-FI, HIMAP-T and HIMAP-M protect different feeders, so one is never offered in place of another. The quote names the exact type on the label and asks for the settings sheet when the relay is being replaced.
Who supplies the unit on offer
HIMAP relays also turn up as surplus and refurbished units. The seller has to show evidence for the very unit offered, and that evidence is compared with the label photographed on board before any price is given.
Engine and generator stay apart
A Hyundai engine and a Hyundai generator on the same bedplate still have separate plates and parts lists. Generator items follow this page; engine items follow the HiMSEN or two-stroke page.
HD Hyundai Electric equipment — questions buyers ask
Our drawings say Hyundai Heavy Industries, not HD Hyundai Electric. Is this the right page?
Yes, for the generator, switchboard and relay side. The electrical business was a division of Hyundai Heavy Industries until the 2017 spin-off, so older documents carry that name. Engine parts belong on the HiMSEN page.
The plate reads HFJ7 and then more figures. Why do you need all of them?
Because HFJ7 is a series, not one machine. The characters after it, together with the serial number, point to the parts list of your generator.
Can a HIMAP-T replace a HIMAP-FI?
Do not assume so. The suffix names the protection function, and the relay is matched to the type on its label and the settings in the switchboard documents.
A seller we do not know offers a used HIMAP relay. Is it genuine?
Not from the listing itself. We ask the seller to document that very unit and check it against the label on your relay before any price is given.
Is a portable Hyundai generator covered here?
No. Small portable sets sold under a Hyundai name are a different product line. This page covers ship generators, switchboards and their relays.
Is Vessel Core connected to HD Hyundai Electric?
No, and there is no agreement of any kind. Vessel Core holds no distribution, representation or partnership agreement with HD Hyundai Electric, and quoting a component against one of its designations implies no approval by the maker and no claim of interchangeability.
Send the HFJ type line and the relay label
The generator type line, its serial and the label of the relay in question are enough to link the request to the equipment on board. Part of the plate worn away? Send what you can read; the missing details are cleared up by e-mail.
