CONTOIL VZO and VZF II oil meters · DFM differential fuel measurement — quoted from the full meter code

The whole code, not the size: A CONTOIL code carries the family, the size, the connection and further letters and figures after it. Two VZO 40 meters with different suffixes are built for different duty, so the complete code is copied from the label.

Aquametro meters behind engine-room enquiries

Aquametro Oil & Marine is based in Therwil, Switzerland, and its CONTOIL meters measure the fuel used by boilers, engines and generators on ships, with marine type-approved versions. A single meter measures flow in one line; the DFM units measure the difference between supply and return, which an engine with a return line needs. The full code on the label names the family, the size and the build.

CONTOIL VZO

VZO 20 · VZO 25 · VZO 40

Volumetric oil meters with a roller counter and an optional pulse output, in screwed and flanged builds. Counters, pulse transmitters, measuring chambers and strainers are quoted against the complete code on the label.

CONTOIL VZF II

VZF II

The second CONTOIL family for lubricating oils and fuels. The family is named in every line along with the full code from the label.

Differential measurement

DFM 8ECO · DFM 12ECO

Differential fuel measurement units with electronic readout, used where fuel returns from the engine. Sensors, the readout unit and the board computer that calculates consumption are quoted as separate lines.

Component coverage

Aquametro components that reach an RFQ

The list follows a meter from the fuel line to its readout. Each line can carry the order code from the label or from an earlier order next to the description.

  • Complete meters by full code
  • Mechanical counters and roller registers
  • Pulse transmitters
  • Measuring chambers and pistons
  • Strainers and filter screens fitted ahead of the meter
  • Flange gaskets, O-rings and seal kits
  • Electronic readout units and board computers for DFM systems
  • Cables and connectors between meter and readout
Evidence for the enquiry

What to read off an Aquametro meter before ordering

Each meter carries a label with its full code and serial. A photograph of the label and of the meter in its line settles most of the points below.

  • Full meter code exactly as on the label, with every letter and figure after the family
  • Serial number from the same label
  • Fuel line: main engine, generator or boiler, supply or return
  • Readout: counter only, pulse output, or electronic readout unit
  • Whether the meter is a marine type-approved version
  • Order codes from an earlier invoice or the meter documentation
What an Aquametro enquiry gets read against

Supply route review for Aquametro meters

A fuel meter feeds consumption records the ship reports on, so a replacement has to match the meter already approved and fitted. The full code is settled first, then each line is quoted.

Suffix before size

The letters and figures after the size mark the build and its limits. A meter of the same size with a different suffix is not offered as a replacement.

Meter or parts

A counter or a pulse transmitter can often be replaced on its own. Where the measuring chamber is worn, the reply sets out a complete meter as well, and the ship decides.

Differential systems as a set

On a DFM system the supply and return sensors and the readout work together, so each part is quoted against the system it belongs to.

Gaskets on an accepted path

Flange gaskets and O-rings that carry their own makers' markings can go on an equivalent-source path for the ship's own spares.

From the engine room

Aquametro meter parts — questions from the engine room

Which data is needed for an Aquametro meter enquiry?

The full meter code and serial from the label, the line the meter sits in, and how it is read: counter, pulse output or electronic readout. A photograph of the label is usually enough.

Can only the counter or the pulse transmitter be replaced?

Often, yes. Send the full meter code and say which part has failed; if the reply sees a complete meter as the better line, it says so and the ship decides.

Does it matter whether the meter is a marine version?

Yes. Marine type-approved versions are quoted only against the same version, so the label should show which one is fitted.

Does Vessel Core calibrate or install meters?

No. Vessel Core identifies and supplies parts only. Installation, calibration and certification stay with the crew or the service company the owner chooses.

Is Vessel Core connected to Aquametro?

No, and there is no agreement of any kind. Vessel Core holds no distribution, representation or partnership agreement with Aquametro, and quoting a component against one of its designations implies no approval by the maker and no claim of interchangeability.

Aquametro meters are ordered against the full code on their labels, so the family names appear here for a buyer to match the meters already on board. Vessel Core holds no distribution, representation or partnership agreement with this or any other manufacturer named on this page, and does not present itself as holding one. Aquametro and CONTOIL are trademarks of their respective owners. The designations on this page appear so that a buyer can match equipment already installed; quoting a component against any of them implies no approval by the maker, and no compatibility or commercial relationship of any kind.

Aquametro meter due for parts?

Send the meter label and the line it serves.

Photograph the label with the full meter code and serial, say which fuel line the meter serves and how it is read, then list the items and the port.
