Actuator and valve are two lines: An Eltorque actuator is read from its own label, and the valve under it from the valve's marking. The mounting adapter between them depends on both, so an enquiry names the actuator, the valve and the adapter fitted.

Eltorque actuators behind engine-room enquiries

Eltorque is a Trondheim company that builds electric quarter-turn actuators for ship valves. They sit on butterfly and ball valves in ballast and bilge systems, cargo handling, tank gauging and fuel systems, and many offshore supply and fishing vessels run them. Each actuator carries a QT size on its label and is built with options such as failsafe or a Dual CAN network connection, so the label decides the parts.

QT series, small

QT50 · QT70

The smallest actuators of the range, for small valves. Control boards, covers and seals are quoted against the QT size and the options on the label.

QT series

QT250 · QT400

The middle sizes of the range. Failsafe and Dual CAN are options shown on the label, so the option line from the label goes into the enquiry together with the valve the actuator turns.

QT series, large

QT800 · QT1000

The larger quarter-turn actuators for bigger ballast and cargo valves. Ex and open deck versions exist for most sizes, and the version is named on every line.

Component coverage

Eltorque components that reach an RFQ

The list follows an actuator from its cover down to the valve. Each line can carry the order code from the label or from an earlier order next to the description.

  • Complete QT actuators by size and option
  • Control boards and network interface items
  • Failsafe modules
  • Position feedback and indicator parts
  • Covers, cover seals and cable glands
  • Manual override parts
  • Mounting adapters and couplings to the valve stem
  • Control panels and system units for remote operation
Evidence for the enquiry

What to read off an Eltorque actuator before ordering

Each actuator carries a label with its size, options and serial. A photograph of the label and of the valve below settles most of the points below.

  • QT size exactly as on the label, for example QT250
  • Options from the label: failsafe, Dual CAN, Ex or open deck
  • Serial number from the same label
  • Valve below: type, size and maker marking
  • Mounting adapter between actuator and valve
  • Ship system: ballast, bilge, cargo, tank gauging or fuel
What an Eltorque enquiry gets read against

Supply route review for Eltorque actuators

An actuator, its options and the valve below it are chosen together, so a replacement is checked against all three. The label is settled first, then each line is quoted.

Options before size

Two QT250 actuators with and without failsafe are separate builds. The options printed on the label go into every line, not only the size.

Hazardous areas named

Ex versions are quoted only against an Ex label, because the area classification on board depends on them.

Adapter with the valve

When a valve is changed or an actuator moves to another valve, the mounting adapter is a line of its own, read from both the valve and the actuator.

Original reference for the actuator

Actuators and their control boards are quoted on the original reference. Seals and cable glands that carry their own makers' markings can go on an equivalent-source path for the ship's own spares.

From the engine room

Eltorque actuator parts — questions from the engine room

Which data is needed for an Eltorque actuator enquiry?

The QT size and options from the label, the serial number, and the type and size of the valve the actuator turns. A photograph of the label and of the actuator on its valve is usually enough.

Can a failed actuator be repaired with parts, or is a new one needed?

That depends on what failed. Control boards, covers, seals and feedback parts can be quoted as parts; where the reply sees a complete actuator as the better line, it says so and the ship decides.

Do Ex actuators need anything special in the enquiry?

Yes. Say that the actuator is an Ex version and send its label, because Ex units are quoted only against the same Ex marking.

Does Vessel Core install or commission actuators?

No. Vessel Core identifies and supplies parts only. Installation, addressing and commissioning stay with the crew or the service company the owner chooses.

Is Vessel Core connected to Eltorque?

No, and there is no agreement of any kind. Vessel Core holds no distribution, representation or partnership agreement with Eltorque, and quoting a component against one of its designations implies no approval by the maker and no claim of interchangeability.

Eltorque actuators are ordered against the QT size and options on their labels, so those sizes appear here for a buyer to match the actuators already on board. Vessel Core holds no distribution, representation or partnership agreement with this or any other manufacturer named on this page, and does not present itself as holding one. Eltorque is a trademark of its owner. The designations on this page appear so that a buyer can match equipment already installed; quoting a component against any of them implies no approval by the maker, and no compatibility or commercial relationship of any kind.

Eltorque actuator due for parts?

Send the actuator label and the valve it turns.

Photograph the actuator label with its QT size and options, add the valve type and size and the ship system, then list the items and the port.
