HYDAC Filter Element
and Accumulator Parts
HYDAC, based in Sulzbach/Saar in Germany, started out in hydraulic accumulators and makes filters as well, and both are found on ships as well as ashore. An element is matched by its full code, a bladder by the accumulator type on the shell plate, and every line is offered as a genuine part or a checked alternative, confirmed before the quote.
HYDAC elements and accumulators on board
First the two parts of the element code that are most often misread, the type letter and the media code, then the bladder accumulator, and last the order in which the code is read. An automatic back-flushing filter by Boll & Kirch is read on the Boll & Kirch page.
R · D
HYDAC puts R into the code of an element for a return-line filter and D into the code of one for a pressure filter, and trade listings describe R and D elements the same way. A return element and a pressure element can share a size and still be different parts, so the letter is copied from the element and never assumed from where the housing sits.
BN4HC · ON
BN4HC is HYDAC's code for its Betamicron glass-fibre media, and a US federal supply record describes a HYDAC element with this code as a Betamicron fibreglass element. The media code can differ between listings: HYDAC part number 1262981 reads 0240 R 010 ON in the maker's catalogue and 0240 R 010 BN4HC in a trader's listing, so the request carries both the part number and the code, and the quote states which element is offered.
SB330
HYDAC sells spare bladders for its SB330 accumulators, and a US federal supply record files a hydraulic accumulator bladder with a HYDAC SB330 reference under ship and marine equipment. The bladder is matched by accumulator type and size from the shell plate, and the precharge follows the accumulator documents.
Size · type · rating · media
Size, element type letter, filtration rating and filter material, in that order, then anything printed after the main code. If the label on the element cannot be read, the full code from the housing plate or the filter documents takes its place.
How a HYDAC element or bladder ends up in a request
An element request may begin with the clogging indicator on the housing, a change due in the maintenance system, or an oil sample whose cleanliness class has risen. The oil cleanliness code reader turns a laboratory result into its class, and the filter rating reader explains what a beta ratio says about an element. Neither changes the part: the replacement is the element whose code is printed on the one being removed.
A bladder accumulator comes into a request when the circuit stops holding pressure as it should, or when the gas side is found below the precharge in its documents. The gas valve and the precharge are checked with the equipment those documents name before a bladder is ordered. The hydraulic accumulator calculator shows how usable volume depends on precharge, which helps explain a symptom but does not choose a replacement.
HYDAC parts we can quote
Each item is identified from the element code, a plate, the HYDAC part number or the parts list, never from a description alone.
- Return-line filter elements, quoted against the full element code
- Pressure filter elements, under the same rule
- Elements with other HYDAC media codes, once code and part number agree
- Housing seals and O-rings, from the filter type and the parts list
- Clogging indicators, where the type on the indicator can be read
- Spare bladders for SB bladder accumulators, matched by type and size from the shell plate
- Gas valve and oil valve parts and seal kits for bladder accumulators, from the accumulator documents
What to send for a HYDAC element or accumulator
HYDAC elements of one size come with different codes, and the housing alone does not show which one it takes. The items below settle which element is in the ship's filter before any price is given.
- The full element code from the element or end cap, with everything printed after it
- The HYDAC part number from the label or the box, if there is one
- The filter housing plate with type and size, if the element label is unreadable
- A photo of the removed element next to its housing
- For an accumulator: the shell plate photographed in full and the fluid in the circuit
- The precharge written exactly as the accumulator documents state it
- The laboratory report, if an oil sample prompted the element change
Supply route review for HYDAC elements and accumulators
Every line is weighed as a genuine part or a checked alternative, and the choice is confirmed before the quote. Elements are identified by the full code, bladders by the accumulator.
One code, one element
Elements of one size can differ in type letter, rating, material or what follows the main code, and each difference makes a separate part. A request for 'a HYDAC 0160 element' names only the size, so it is answered with a question rather than a price.
Elements of other makes
If an element of another make is offered instead of the HYDAC one, it is named as an alternative. Its full code and data are compared with the label on the element removed, the housing and the seal material, and the buyer decides before the quote.
What the check compares
For an element: the full code, the housing it sits in and the seal material. For a bladder: the accumulator type and size from the shell plate and the fluid it works with. A difference in any of these is written into the quote.
An accumulator holds gas under pressure
Fitting a bladder and charging it with nitrogen follow the accumulator documents and are done by people trained for the job. This page names parts; it gives no charging instructions.
HYDAC elements and accumulators — questions buyers ask
Is the element size enough to get a quote?
No. The size is only the first field of the code; the type letter, filtration rating, material and anything printed after them complete it. Send the whole code from the element, or the housing plate if the element label has gone.
Our old element says BN4HC, but the catalogue shows ON under the same part number. Which one is quoted?
The same HYDAC part number can appear with either code in different listings. Send the code and the part number from your element; the quote names the exact element offered, and any difference in the media code is written into it.
Can you supply a spare bladder for our SB330 accumulator?
Yes, from the shell plate. Send the full type line and size, the fluid in the circuit and the documents that state the precharge. The bladder is matched to that accumulator, and the charging after fitting follows the documents.
Will you quote an element of another make instead of the HYDAC one?
Only as an alternative, named as such and agreed by the buyer before the quote. It is first compared with the full HYDAC code from the old element, the housing and the seal material.
We also have an automatic back-flushing filter. Is it read the same way?
No. An automatic filter is identified from its own plate and the item in its parts list, not from an element code. Send both; automatic filters by Boll & Kirch have a page of their own.
Is Vessel Core connected to HYDAC?
No, and there is no agreement of any kind. Vessel Core holds no distribution, representation or partnership agreement with HYDAC, and quoting a component against one of its designations implies no approval by the maker and no claim of interchangeability.
Send the HYDAC element code or the shell plate
The full element code, the HYDAC part number if the label has one, and the housing or shell plate are enough to start. Only part of it legible? Send what can be read, and we will come back with the questions that remain.
