Aalborg Boiler
Spare Parts Supplier

Spare parts for the Aalborg family as a whole: oil-fired and composite boilers, exhaust gas economisers and the maker's own burners, identified from the name on the shell, the letters after it and the burner plate before anything is priced.

Reading the plate: The same boiler can carry MISSION, Aalborg Industries or Alfa Laval Aalborg on its documents. The name tells you the family; the letters after it, and any suffix such as TCi, tell you the boiler. Copy both exactly as stamped.

Aalborg boiler, economiser and burner lines

Aalborg is a family name, not a model. Under it sit vertical oil-fired boilers, composite boilers fired by oil and by engine exhaust, large two-drum boilers, forced-circulation economisers and the maker's own burners. Each is read by the letters that follow the name. The top-fired OL has a page of its own and is only pointed to here.

Oil-fired · vertical

OS

A vertical oil-fired auxiliary boiler, first sold as MISSION OS. Its convection section is made of pin-tube elements: an outer tube around an inner tube whose welded pins extend the heating surface. A tube line on an OS is therefore an element, identified from the boiler's own drawing, not a length of plain tube.

Composite · oil and exhaust gas

OC · OC-TCi

A vertical boiler fired by oil and heated by exhaust gas in one unit: bare smoke tubes on the exhaust gas side, an oil-fired furnace with its own convection surface on the other. The maker lists the OC and the OC-TCi as separate boilers, so a parts list for one is not read across to the other, and every line should say which section it belongs to.

D-type · two drums

D

A large water-tube boiler of D-type design, with a steam drum and a water drum joined by a generating tube bank. For oil firing it carries the steam-atomising KBSD burner, so its burner lines belong with the large top-fired boilers rather than with the small vertical units.

Exhaust gas economiser · water tube

XW

A water-tube economiser for engine exhaust, built from finned (gilled) double tubes and run on forced circulation. It has no steam space of its own: water is pumped to it from an oil-fired boiler or a separate steam drum and returns there as a steam and water mixture. Soot blowers on steam or compressed air keep the tubes clear.

Top-fired · two drums

OL

The large top-fired boiler that Alfa Laval writes as Aalborg OL, formerly MISSION OL. Its construction, burner and fuel line questions are covered on the Aalborg Mission OL page and are not repeated here.

Maker's own burners

KBSD · KBSA · KBM · KBP

The KB letters name Aalborg's own burners, and the letters after KB are separate designs, not sizes of one. The KBSD is a steam-atomising burner for large top-fired boilers. KBSA, KBM and KBP appear in the maker's burner list and in independent parts lists, where lances, nozzles, electrode sets and ignition transformers are listed burner by burner and size by size.

Before the parts list

What an Aalborg plate does and does not tell you

Most wrong Aalborg quotations start before any part is named: a boiler read under its old name, an economiser read from the boiler that feeds it, or a fuel valve assumed to be the one the burner was built with. These five points come up first.

Name history

MISSION, Aalborg Industries, Alfa Laval Aalborg

Aalborg Industries sold its modular boilers under the MISSION brand. Alfa Laval completed its purchase of Aalborg Industries in 2011 and now writes the same lines as Aalborg OS, Aalborg OC and so on, with the former MISSION name noted beside them. Plate, manual and catalogue can disagree about the name and still describe one boiler.

Older plates

Sunrod

Aalborg Industries took over the Sunrod boiler business, and Sunrod in turn passed with it to Alfa Laval. A Sunrod plate belongs to the same family history, but its parts are read from the Sunrod documents and drawings that came with that boiler, not from a current Aalborg designation.

Not always a boiler

Thermal fluid and inert gas plant

When Alfa Laval bought Aalborg Industries, the business included thermal fluid systems and inert gas systems as well as boilers. An Aalborg plate in the machinery spaces can belong to either, and neither is read from a boiler parts list. Say what the unit does before asking for a part.

Burner fuel side

The fuel oil valve on a KBSD

The KBSD was built with a pneumatically operated fuel oil regulating valve. Alfa Laval names oil mist reaching the control air as a main cause of pneumatic valve breakdowns and offers an electrically operated valve as a bolt-on replacement, so a KBSD in service may have either. Diaphragm, actuator and positioner parts only fit the first.

Exhaust gas side

Economiser circulation and soot

An XW depends on its circulating pumps for the forced circulation it cannot run without, and on its soot blowers to keep the finned tubes clean. Pump wear parts and soot blower items belong to the economiser request, even though the boiler supplying the water carries a different plate.

Component coverage

Aalborg boiler and burner items on RFQ lines

Grouped from the burner inward, since that is where most Aalborg lists begin. Each line reads best with the item number from the manual next to the part name.

  • Burner lances, lance repair kits and their O-rings
  • Main atomiser nozzles for KBSD and KBSA burners, named by burner size
  • Ignition electrode sets, ceramic insulators, ignition cables and ignition transformers
  • Flame detectors, lance position switches and proximity sensors
  • Fuel oil regulating valves: pneumatic actuators, diaphragms and positioners, or the electrically operated replacement
  • Fuel train solenoid valves, burner oil pumps, filters, flow meters and flexible hoses
  • Pin-tube elements and the repair items used when an element leaks
  • Smoke tube and tube plate items on the exhaust gas side of composite boilers
  • Finned (gilled) tube elements for XW economisers
  • Soot blower parts for steam or compressed-air cleaning
  • Circulating pump wear parts for forced-circulation economisers
  • Water level electrodes, gauge glasses and low-water protection items
  • Manhole, handhole and inspection door gaskets
  • Control panel items: relays, timers, power supplies, control modules and displays
Evidence for the enquiry

What to send for an Aalborg enquiry

An Aalborg request needs the family name, the boiler letters and the burner as three separate pieces of evidence. How a plate photograph becomes a priced list is set out on the how we work page.

  • The name exactly as stamped on the shell: MISSION, Aalborg Industries, Alfa Laval Aalborg or Sunrod
  • The letters after the name with every suffix (OS, OC, OC-TCi, D, XW) and the serial number
  • The burner plate on its own: the KB letters, the figures after them and the burner serial
  • For a fuel oil valve: whether it is pneumatic or electrically operated, with a photograph of the valve and its actuator
  • For a composite boiler: whether the item sits on the oil-fired or the exhaust gas side
  • For an economiser: its own plate, and which boiler or steam drum it circulates through
  • Item numbers from the manual's parts list, with the page or drawing they were taken from
  • The fuel the burner is firing now
  • Photographs of both plates and of the failed part in place
Supply route

How an Aalborg list is worked through

An Aalborg list usually mixes burner consumables, economiser items and boiler fittings. They are read against different plates and do not all follow the same supply route.

Family first, then the letters

The word Aalborg narrows the search to one family; it does not name a part. The letters after it, the suffix and the serial decide which drawing a line is read from, and an older MISSION or Sunrod manual stays the reference when it matches the boiler on board.

Burner and boiler on separate lines

A KB burner carries its own plate and its own parts list, and a burner of another make may be fitted to an Aalborg shell. Burner items are quoted from the burner plate; shell, tube and fitting items from the boiler plate.

Replacement routes stated per line

Where the buyer's approval list allows it, electrodes, insulators, nozzles, hoses and gaskets can be reviewed on a verified alternative route, with dimensions and material checked at RFQ stage. Pressure parts and the protective devices a surveyor tests go on an OEM-route review. The quotation names the route for each line.

Economiser read on its own

An XW or a separate exhaust gas section is quoted from its own plate and element drawing, not from the engine and not from the boiler that supplies its water.

What ships ask before ordering

Aalborg boiler enquiries — recurring questions

Can you supply a fuel oil valve for an Aalborg boiler?

Yes, as a quoted line once it is clear which valve is meant. On a KBSD burner the fuel oil regulating valve may be the original pneumatically operated one or the electrically operated valve that Alfa Laval offers in its place, and their spare parts differ. Send the burner plate, a photograph of the valve with its actuator and the item number if the manual gives one. On other burners the fuel oil solenoid valves are read from that burner's own parts list.

My plate says MISSION or Sunrod. Is that an Aalborg boiler?

MISSION is the name Aalborg Industries used for its modular boilers, and Alfa Laval now lists the same lines as Aalborg with the former MISSION name noted. Sunrod was a boiler business Aalborg Industries took over. Send the plate as it reads: the name and letters on it decide which documents the parts are read from.

Can you quote a replacement part for an Aalborg boiler without a part number?

Yes, starting from the plates. The boiler letters, suffix and serial, the burner plate and a photograph of the part in place are usually enough to begin. Burner consumables can be reviewed on a verified alternative route where your approval requirements allow it; pressure parts and protective devices stay on an OEM-route review, and the quotation says which route each line follows.

Is an Aalborg exhaust gas economiser quoted from the boiler plate?

No. An XW economiser has its own plate and its own tube elements, soot blowers and circulating pumps, even though its water comes from an oil-fired boiler or a separate steam drum. Send the economiser plate with the boiler plate and say which unit the item is on.

Which Aalborg equipment does this page cover?

The OS vertical boiler, the OC and OC-TCi composite boilers, the D-type boiler, the XW economiser and the KBSD, KBSA, KBM and KBP burners. The top-fired OL, formerly MISSION OL, has its own model page. Aalborg thermal fluid and inert gas plant can be sent too, read from its own plate.

Is Vessel Core connected to Aalborg?

No, and there is no agreement of any kind. Vessel Core holds no distribution, representation or partnership agreement with Aalborg, and quoting a component against one of its designations implies no approval by the maker and no claim of interchangeability.

Aalborg, MISSION and Sunrod designations are named on this page so that a buyer can match a boiler, economiser or burner already installed on board. Vessel Core holds no distribution, representation or partnership agreement with this or any other manufacturer named on this page, and does not present itself as holding one. Alfa Laval, Aalborg, MISSION and Sunrod are trademarks of their respective owners. The designations on this page appear so that a buyer can match equipment already installed; quoting a component against any of them implies no approval by the maker, and no compatibility or commercial relationship of any kind.

Aalborg boiler or burner item to identify?

Send the boiler plate and the burner plate.

List the name and letters on the shell, the burner type, the fuel in use, the parts needed and the port. Burner, economiser and boiler items are quoted as separate lines, each with its supply route named.
